Shadowing
A particular approach to gathering data about users and their environments that amounts to following them (with their permission and knowledge in most cases) through a typical day or period of time. The goal is a rich understanding and description of these people’s behavior, interactions and communication – along with the attitudes and motivations that accompany them.
What We Do
We work with you to select the appropriate user-types (persona), or profiles and recruit them for the activity. During the sessions, we record everything they do, say, and interact-with. Care is taken to be as unobstrusive as possible in hopes of minimizing changes in behavior as a result of the shadowing. The shadowing typically ends with a de-briefing discussion where probing and clarification questions are asked to ensure we understand the goals, context, and motivations behind the activities.
What You Get
A report detailing user or customer activities, movements, interactions and communications during the day or period of time of interest. This will include highlighting the areas where specific attitudes or behaviors relevant to the experimental questions or issues occur, and what the implications for design or technology solution may be.
